Students can gain rigorous experience beyond the classroom in laboratories, companies, and the community.
Start your research journey with OUR
The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) website offers a premiere toolkit for students to prepare for, obtain, and succeed in undergraduate research experiences.
Want to meet with someone in person? OUR’s team also hosts office hours, where they can discuss strategies for locating and applying to research opportunities, amongst other related topics. Learn more here.
Find experiences on BSOP
The program manages the Biological Sciences Opportunity Portal (BSOP): a centralized database for students to find and explore research, internship, and scholarship opportunities in the Biological Sciences—both at UMD and beyond.
BSCI Ambassadors Program
BSCI Ambassadors is a volunteer experience. The ambassadorship creates a formative pathway for students to practice and master professional skills such as: campaigning, recruitment, public speaking, event coordination, leadership, mentoring, and more. Students with minimal or no prior work experience are highly encouraged to apply. The ambassadorship is the first of its kind for Biological Sciences, so students admitted into the program during 2026 would be part of a special, inaugural cohort.
Earn research credit
Biological Sciences students who are completing undergraduate research can request to apply their experience as academic research credit.
