WHY BE A "TERP" AT USG
The programs offered at the Universities at Shady Grove take pride in providing students a more intimate learning experience. The average class size is about 45 students, which allows for more one-on-one interaction between the students and the instructor and more room for thorough discussion of topics. Moreover, the University of Maryland, College Park Biological Sciences Program at the Universities at Shady Grove follows the same curricula and teaching standards as followed at the home campus. The smaller class size offers students ease of faculty accessibility and letter of recommendation
Students attending the USG campus are eligible for scholarships from UMCP College Park as well as those specific to the Shady Grove campus.
Students who attend classes at College Park pay $275 for an annual parking pass versus the Shady Grove campus pay $0.
Students not only have access to their faculty during class time and office hours, but also have the facility to utilize the Center for Academic Success (CAS), which is our on-site writing and tutoring center. CAS offers writing assistance, workshops about learning strategies (such as speed reading, test-oriented studying strategies, time-management, etc.), Guided Study Sessions, academic coaching, and a variety of other resources to assist students in reaching their academic and personal goals. High Tech Laboratories
The Biological Sciences Program at the Universities at Shady Grove has two fully equipped laboratories for learning the latest techniques in cell and molecular biology and neurophysiology.
UMCP's Biological Sciences Program at the Universities at Shady Grove has been designed in such a way so that students can complete all the upper level classes needed to graduate in one location and without the trouble of commuting to main campus.

Career & Internship Opportunities
Biological students at the Universities at Shady Grove have the opportunity to complete internships for credit, which can lead to several career opportunities.
Shady Grove's state-of-the-art library facilities include over 20,000 on-site references and give students full access to all College Park and University System of Maryland libraries and databases with free book delivery from all USM sites. The library includes computer work stations to search catalogs and conduct online research. In addition, there are group study rooms, a large study area with ports for laptops and other electronic equipment, a comfortable study lounge with couches and abundant natural light, and a mini copy center to print and copy documents.
Computer Labs and Computer Classrooms
The Shady Grove campus has fully-equipped and updated computer labs and classrooms with the latest hardware and software as well as wireless printing and scanning facilities. The campus has free wi-fi that students can use with their own laptops or on laptops that they borrow from the Office of Information Technology or the library through the laptop loan program.
Green Grove Café and the corner bistro
Students studying at the Universities at Shady Grove also have access to the scrumptious food at the Green Grove Café that follows a farm-to-fork philosophy and creates most products from scratch.
The Corner Bistro is a place to relax, hang out with friends and grab a quick bite. The coffee shop features a variety of snacks such as freshly-baked pastries, cookies, brownies, and sandwiches. For non-coffee drinkers there is a variety of blended smoothies, fresh fruit juices, teas and hot cocoa.
Recreation Center & Student Lounges
The Universities at Shady Grove has a gym complete with lockers and shower rooms, a game room with ping-pong and foosball, and lounging areas with television sets and couches. There is also a soccer field and outdoor sand volleyball court.
Top Notch Buildings
The Universities at Shady Grove's green and beautiful campus provides a great learning environment for students. The newest building, the Camille Kendall Academic Center, received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for its marvelous features that help in creating a green and sustainable future.
